Letter to a Fundie Sat Mar 08

I’m so glad he [your brother] actually passed the message on! I also can’t believe you don’t know what a fundie is, although I’d imagine you’ve looked it up by now. ‘Fundie’ is short for ‘Fundamentalist’, and the usage of the word is pretty strictly restricted to fundamentalist christians, and their like. Now, why should you STOP being a fundie? That’s a much better question. So, since we grew up together a bit and I know that you’ve got some good reasons for being part of the fundie squad, I’m here to tell you that it’s just not worth it. Christianity is the biggest lie on the face of the planet. Really, I mean that.

For starters: JESUS came from astrology. That’s right. I’m not disputing whether or not jesus was real or not. I do believe that there was, indeed, once a man named Jesus who did SOME things. However, all the traditional crap from the bible is robbed directly from astrology, and previously existing Egyptian and Greek gods. Jesus represents the sun in egyptian astrology. In egyptian lore – he was represented by horus. Horus was born on December 25th too! (coincidence?) no. December 25th is the mediterranean winter solstice. The sun rises lower and lower each day until the 25th of december, when it reaches its lowest point.

For 3 days (3 days, hmm…) it RESTS there, and after 3 days it gets ‘resurrected’, or at least the decline of the sun is over, and jesus is reborn! Err, um, the sun goes back up. Ironicallly, it’s followed by 3 stars (orion’s belt) on it’s way back. For a long time, these were referred to as the ‘3 kings of Orion’, and in the bible they are undoubtedly the 3 wise men. As a matter of fact, there’s a LOOOT more astrological similarity.

Bet you didn’t know much of that, did you? I’m sure as SHIT they’re not telling it to you in church, are they. Well, that’s interesting, or it would be if the very nature of religion wasn’t as such. Nothing else can be true, just THEIR story and THEIR jesus and THEIR god. Well, you know who else was born on december 25th?

Attis of Phrygia
Dionysus/Bacchus
Horus/Osiris of Egypt
Krishna of India
Mithra of Persia
Zoroaster/Zarathustra

WOW! that’s a load of ‘em isn’t it? Well, yeah. it is. And generally all the mythology behind jesus is just a bunch of regurgitated astrological mythology which has (throughout the years) been perverted and misinterpreted to serve the purposes of the church.

And that’s not even the best part! The CHURCH is the most evil part of it all! Church promotes self-loathing, inner weakness, external dependency, non-free thinking, and supression. I don’t want to live like that, but let me tell you what I want even less: a bunch of you motherfuckers believing that YOU and you alone have the story of the universe uniquely right, everyone else is wrong, and that you’re (all) on a mission from ‘GOD’ to spread that message. It’s like you all serve the purpose of further dumbing-down people into submission, and repression. “Repression?”. Yes, repression. Sexual, mental, and even (many times throughout history) physical repression.

Not me though, and not those like me. We’re strong from within ourselves, and nowhere else, and we’re perfectly content in being so.

Anyway- STOP! For fuck’s sake you can be happy without them, likely much happier. Create your own strength from within and have faith in YOURSELF. Until then, I don’t associate with blind followers. Have a nice day, if you still can. Re-think what you’re doing this sunday.

Hooray for free thinking! I grew up in vaguely Protestant Christian homes, and I can't remember ever feeling comfortable with it all. It just seemed so hokey... As I grew up, I had a voracious appetite for books--and incidentally came across a lot of "coincidental" similarities between many, many, MANY of the worlds religions. I can see how there could be comfort in religion-ignorance is bliss, though, is it not? I wish more people could understand your point and think for themselves, and enjoy their lives. It's sad to think of how many people "serve" God and are good little members of the flock. By the by--how can anybody be comfortable when they are openly referred to as SHEEP in a flock? Is that not the most common euphemism for being a believer, as well as for being a mindless follower of trends and such? Meh--this is becoming a rambling comment. To the point: I concur. ha
